Choosing an Installation Method Getting Started Guide 33 Beginning Installation When the installation begins, you see a graphical display indicating that the Linux kernel is being prepared and your hardware is examined (see Figure 12). FIGURE 12.  The initial screen informs you of hardware checking and other preparation for OpenLinux installation. The tasks in this initial screen attempt to determine information about your com- puter hardware and what to use during the installation process. In particular, it tries to determine the media to use for installation. Here are the choices: If the OpenLinux Install CD-ROM is found during the hardware auto- probe routine, the installation assumes you will be installing OpenLinux from a CD-ROM. If no OpenLinux Install CD-ROM is found, the installation program assumes that you must be installing via a networked NFS server, and attempts to locate that server on the network. After the installation program completes the tasks listed on this screen (which may take a few minutes), an animated Caldera Systems OpenLinux logo appears. Getting Help During Installation As you use the installation program, you can choose the Help button at any time to learn more about the options presented on screen. A help button is located on the lower right corner of each installation screen, as shown in Figure 13. FIGURE 13.  Select the Help button to get help from any installation screen.
